中国有着悠久的儿童题材绘画历史：战国、汉代时就已经萌芽，在中国传统绘画中占有较重要的地位。儿童题材绘画这一类作品在中国绘画史上曾大量出现，流传数量可观，沿用过去的名称主要分为“婴戏图”、“牧放图”和“货郎图”三类，是古代儿童绘画中代表性的三种作品。
本书通过介绍中国古代儿童生活画，引导国外读者欣赏中国古代儿童生活画，感受中国人物画的美。
Child imagery has played an important role in China’s traditional art of painting. The earliest depictions of children were found over 2,000 years ago. However, it is after more than a millennium that genre paintings featuring children had their heyday 1,000 years later. Overall, child subjects fall into three categories: playing children, shepherd boys, and peddlers. In addition, baby imagery derived from Spring Festival woodcuts became a great favorite of ordinary people, as it usually contains the auspicious implications of“many sons, many blessings.”
