大仲马Alexandre Dumas pere(1802-1870)法国19世纪最多产、最受民众喜爱的作家之一,享有“通俗小说之王”的称号。他以戏剧创作开始文学生涯,后又撰写历史小说,获得盛誉。最著名的作品有《三个火枪手》(The ThreeMusketeers)、《基督山伯爵》(The Count of Montecrtsto)和《黑色郁金香》(The Black Tulip)等。他的小说已被译成包括中文在内的多种文字出版,有的还被改编成剧本、拍摄成电影。他的作品在法国和世界文学史上占有重要的地位。
小说以法国国王路易十三和手握重兵、权倾朝野的首相黎塞留红衣主教的矛盾为背景,穿插群臣派系的明争暗斗和宫廷里的秘史轶闻,情节生动曲折。主人公少年勇士达达尼昂骑一匹长毛瘦马,告别亲人,远赴巴黎,希望在国王的火枪队里当一名火枪手。在队长府上,他遇到了阿托斯、波托斯和阿拉米斯三个火枪手,通过欧洲骑士风行的决斗,四人结成生死与共的知己。
