　　    胡德映出生于云南省普洱市，少年坎坷，几经辗转才读完“缩短学制”的初、高中，后下乡当知青。担任几年中、小学英语教师后考上大学，获学士学位。在大学一面教书、一面从事过几年教学秘书工作。后又重走学路，从硕士读到博士。其间受国家留学基金资助赴澳大利亚留学，所获博士学位已经教育部认证。 主要论著有《当代英语教学理论与方法探索》（主编，云南民族出版社20065F版）；《（新装）与（苍蝇）一一评伍尔夫和曼斯菲尔德的两篇未名短篇小说》（《山东外语教学》2004年第6期）：“ThelmDIicatiOns Of lndividualist and Collectivist Perception in China’s EFLT”（International Joumal of Diversity in Organisation Communities and Nations Volume 2004）；《谈王尔德‘名叫埃纳斯特的重要性’中人名意蕴》（《云南师范大学学报》哲社版2000年第1期）；《中国英语教育九十七年回顾》（《山东外语教学》1999年第4期）；《谈英语词汇的性别差异》（大连外国语学院《英语知识》1998年第4期）等。 作为副教授和硕士研究生导师，担任本乖斗生的阅读、听力、写作、英美概况等课程；为研究生开设的课程有：研究生英语精读、社会语言学、研究方法论。主要研究方向 二语习得、双／三语教育。

　　    本研究致力于探索我国云南少数民族将英语作为第三语言学习的热点问题。这些热点问题包括少数民族双语教育背景、英语学习环境和机遇、少数民族外语教师的培训和教学水平以及少数民族学生的英语学习成效。
　　    在我国，少数民族学生小学阶段就接受双语教育，但到了中学阶段所有课程都使用单一的汉语作为语言媒介来进行教学。即使英语课也不例外。本研究提出假设：这种采用汉语作为语言媒介的英语教学或许是少数民族学生英语学习成绩差的重要原因之一，特别是那些汉语基础不够牢靠的少数民族学生更是如此。根据这一假设，少数民族学生的英语学习效率就会受到其民族母语的阻碍。由于这种三语现象的存在，使学生难以获得高考入学所需要的英语成绩。
