Shanghai had taken its pace for urban modernization since it became a commerciai port in 1843.To the 1920s and 1930s，Shanghai had become China s largest port and a supper city with the highest level of modern technology and the most developed industry and commerce，ranking among international metropolis .With its flourishing commerce，fashipnable life，comfortable environment，Shanghai is no less than the major cities in Europe and the United States at all， and therefore it enjoys the reputation of "Oriental Paris".In the process of mondernization， it absorbs the Western foreign culture with an open mind and integrates it with the local culture to form its unique characteristics.
