　　    刘玉红，广西师范大学外国语学院院长、博士、教授、硕士研究生导师，中国高等教育学会外国文学专业委员会理事，广西翻译协会常务理事。在《国外文学》《当代外国文学》等刊物上发表论文多篇，出版译著16部，主持国家级和省级课题2项。

　　    乔伊斯·卡罗尔·欧茨（Joyce Carol Oates）是当代美国多产而多才的作家。她的作品中充满了暴力，因而常常被认为是一位哥特小说家。欧茨在小说创作中大量运用各种哥特的技巧，但是，她借鉴哥特传统是服务于其现实主义的创作目的，因此，她的当代哥特小说可界定为“哥特现实主义”。具体而言，这一哥特现实主义关注生活中暴力的一面，它借用传统哥特小说的技巧，赋予其现实的风格与内涵，以此揭露和批评美国社会与文化的种种弊病。它既体现了哥特小说对人性黑暗的关注，又忠于现实主义客观表现生活的创作原则。
